There is a Fountain
Mark 5:1-20

I.    No one was strong enough to subdue him.        (vs. 4)

    1)    The man had an unclean or evil spirit: He represents the man who is
not spiritual, the man who is not possessed and controlled by God and
        His spirit.                        (Galatians 5:19-21)

    2)    The man lived among the tombs.  He represents the man who loves
darkness because his deeds are evil.        (John 3:19)

    3)    The man was cut off from society.  He did not live among the living; he
lived among the dead.  He represents the living dead, that is, all men
without Christ are dead in their sins and are cut off from the society of
        God.                            (Ephesians 2:2-3)

    4)    The man was uncontrollable.  He could not be helped.  He represents
the uncontrollable evil or depravity of man and the helplessness of man
to deliver or save himself.            (2 Peter 2:4-17; Ephesians 2:8-9)

    5)    The man was naked, stripped of all decency.  He represents the desperate
need of man to be clothed with righteousness.   (Matthew 5:6; Romans 13:14)

    6)    The man was a threat to himself and others.  He is hopeless, no one but
God could help.  Jesus saved him and this is the point.  By saving the man,
Jesus is saying that He is God and that, as God, His is able to save the
most wild and mean, even those who are totally hopeless.  (Mark 5:18-20)

II.    Called to serve.                        (Vs. 18-20)

    1)    Go home.                        (vs. 19)

    2)    To your family.

    3)    Tell them everything the Lord has done for you.
Using the word Lord, Jesus was referring to Himself as God who controlled both
the natural and the super natural world.    (Luke 8:39)

    4)    Witnessing:  Why would Jesus tell this man to proclaim the good news when He
had instructed the leper not to spread the word (Mark 1:44)?  Jesus had been
forbidden to continue His ministry among the Gadarenes.  He needed someone to
carry on the work, so He commissioned this new believer.  (Acts 1:8)

Two significant things are said about his witness:

1)    he was faithful.        (vs. 20)
