Helpless but Not Hopeless
Courage for Tough Times

Daniel 3;   Matthew 10:28

More than courage, we need an anchor that gives us this courage.  Notice in Daniel 3, where their courage came from.  Their anchor gave them courageous faith.

Why do we need courageous faith?

I.    We need courageous faith, to face difficult times.

    a.    Difficult times come to all.                Matthew 5:45

    b.    We all have seen difficult times:  as, individuals, families, churches, country.  We see
war, terrorist, job loss, sickness, relationships.

    c.    God doesn't always deliver like we want.
            Stephen          Act 7

            Job               Job 1 & 2; Job 13:15

            Timothy          2 Timothy 1:7

Courageous faith works in sunshine and storms.

II.    We need courageous faith to fight temptation and sin.        1 Corinthians 6:18

    a.    The problem is not ignorance of sin; it is a matter of courage or lack of it.

    b.    It takes courage to say NO to sin.

III.    We need courageous faith: to go forward, to grow as individuals and as a church.
                        Ephesians 3:16

We must believe in God more than in our own resources.    Psalm 78:19

What were the results of such courageous faith?

a.    The King believed.                Daniel 4

b.    The three Hebrew children were promoted.    Daniel 3:30

People watch what we do, just like what we say.  It was not until they were put to the fiery test that
the King saw God walking with them in the midst of the fire.

Our actions and our reactions will either show Jesus to the world or they won't.

c.    Another result was the fourth man showed up and they were set free.

Let Him be the Star
