Motivation for Soul Winning
2 Corinthians 5:9-21
I. 2 Corinthians 5:9
The soul winner's goal: We work because we love Him and want to please Him.
II. 2 Corinthians 5:10
The soul winners stirring: Judgment.
1. It stirs diligent labor.
2. Our purpose: To please the Lord.
3. Our reason: The judgment seat of Christ.
Reward for some: (1 Cor. 3:11-15; Rev. 22:12; 1 Cor. 3:8; Matt. 6:20; Proverbs 11:30)
III. 2 Corinthians 5:11
The soul winner's conviction.
1. The fear of the Lord: We persuade men. Not a take it or leave it attitude. Knowing that men will pay the consequences in hell. When a person is saved they do not face "the terror of the Lord".
2. We believe in hell: If you do not believe in hell you do not believe the word of God. Jesus talked more about hell than anyone in scripture.
Mark 9:43
3. This generation has failed to understand the terror of the Lord. He is a God of Love (John 3:16), but He is a holy God to be feared.
IV. 2 Corinthians 5:12-16
The soul winner's compassion.
1. (vs. 12) The testimony of a genuine heart compels the minister.
2. (vs. 13) The glory of God and the need of people compel the minister.
3. (Vs. 14-16) The love of Christ compels the minister.
A. Because Christ died that all might die in Him.
B. Because Christ died that all might live in Him.
C. Because Christ died to create a new man: A man that is Christ-centered and not self- centered.
V. 2 Corinthians 5:17
The soul winner's confidence.
1. See everyone as a potential brother or sister, as a new creation in Christ. This man actually becomes a new creature. His whole being, nature, life and behavior changes.
VI. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21
The soul winner's commission.
Ministers of reconciliation.
A. A world of regeneration: A world of new creatures. (vs. 17)
B. A world of reconciliation: A world of men brought back to God.
(Vs. 18-19)
C. A world of ambassadors: A world of men made co-workers with God. (vs. 20)
D. A world of redemption: A world reconciled by a substitution for sin. (vs. 21)
