The believer is to walk differently from the Gentiles.
Ephesians 4:17-32
I. The believer is not to walk after the Gentiles, that is, as ungodly men. (Vs. 17-19)
1) With emptiness of mind. (vs. 17)
2) With dark understanding. (vs. 18)
3) Alienated from God. (vs. 18)
a. Because they are ignorant of God.
b. Because hearts are hard.
4) Being past feeling. (vs. 19)
5) Being given over to lose moral restraint. (vs. 19)
6) Indulging in all uncleanness with greediness. (vs. 19)
II. The believer is to walk after Christ. (vs. 20)
1) Reason #1: He has learned about Christ. (vs. 20)
2) Reason #2: He has heard and been taught how to walk in Christ. (Vs. 20, 21)
a. Put off the old man. (vs. 22)
b. Be renewed in your mind. (vs. 23)
c. Put on the new man. (vs. 24)
III. The believer is to walk putting off the garments of the Old Man.
1) The garment of lying. (vs. 25)
a. The charge: put it away.
b. The reason: believers are one body.
2) The garment of anger. (Vs. 26, 27)
a. The charge: deal with it.
b. The reason: can be the devil's foothold.
3) The garment of stealing. (vs. 28)
a. The charge: work.
b. The reason: to help the needy.
4) The garment of worthless talk. (vs. 29)
a. The charge: speak only good.
b. The reason: to build up others.
5) The garment of being contrary. (vs. 30)
a. The charge: grieve not the Holy Spirit.
b. The reason: He seals us.
6) The garment of unkindness. (vs. 31)
a. The charge: unclothe yourself.
b. The reason: God forgave you.
7) The garment of the New Man. (vs. 32)
a. The charge: clothe yourself.
b. The reason: you are forgiven.
