The Great Requests of Prayer
Colossians 1:9-11
How can we pray for each other?

Request 1:    To know God's will, to be filled with the knowledge of God's will.    (vs. 9)

        A.    In all wisdom.

        B.    In all spiritual understanding.

Request 2:    To walk worthy of Christ.                            (vs. 10)

        A.    By being fruitful in good works.

        B.    By increasing in the knowledge of God.

Request 3:    To possess the Power of God.                            (vs. 11)

        A.    To make us steadfast.

        B.    To make us long-suffering.

        C.    To give us a spirit of joyfulness.

Results:    What God has done for us.

Colossians 1:12-14

1.    God has given us an inheritance.    (see back)                    (vs. 12)

2.    God has delivered us from the power of darkness.                (vs. 13)

3.    God has redeemed us, even forgiven our sins.                     (vs. 14)

Paul prayed for the Christians in the Colossians church to be filled with knowledge of His (God's) will in all wisdom.  When you pray do you ask to know God's will?  Do you desire to fit into His perfect will for you?  Many times when we pray we bring our plans to God and ask Him to fit Himself into our plans instead of allowing us to fit into His plan.

If you knew God's perfect will, would you follow His plan?

God has given believers an inheritance.  What is the inheritance?  Scripture describes the inheritance in the following ways.

a.    We are heirs of eternal life.

7That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.  Titus 3:7

b.     We are heirs of salvation.
14Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?          Hebrews 1:14

c.    We are heirs of the promises made to Abraham, that is, the promises to inherit the world and to be a citizen of a great nation of people.                                                                                                                                           29And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.      Galatians 3:29

13For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.      Romans 4:13

d.    We are heirs of glory.
17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.       Romans 8:17

e.    We are heirs of righteousness.
7By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.         Hebrews 11:7

f.    We are heirs of the grace of life.
7Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.  1 Peter 3:7

g.    We are heirs of God's very special favor-heirs that shall stir the praise of His glory.
11In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.          Ephesians 1:11-12

14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.          Ephesians 1:14

h.    We are heirs of the reward, of the inheritance and all that it includes.
12Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:    Colossians 1:12

24Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.             Colossians 3:24

i.    We are heirs of the eternal inheritance.

15And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.          Hebrews 9:15

j.    We are heirs of an immortal and perfected body that shall be given us when Christ returns.
50Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 51Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.  54So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.           1 Corinthians 15:50-54
