"How to come back when you're down!"
2 Samuel 11 & 12; Psalm 32 & 51
Everybody sins. (Romans 3:23) But Christians have a unique place to turn that will take them past the sin and on to forgiveness.
The Devil tempts you to sin by suggesting to you that "You can get away with it." Then after tempting you to sin, he spends his time accusing you with "You'll never get away with it!" He wants you down and discouraged thinking that you will never be able to get back up again. But the Bible tells you how to get back up after you've been knocked down.
I. We see: The capability of sin in the Saint. (2 Sam. 11; 1 John 1:8; Prov. 20:9)
II. We see: The consequences of sin. (2 Samuel 12; Psalm 51 & 32)
1. Sin soils the soul. (Psalm 51:1-2; Psalm 32:1-2)
2. Sin saturates the mind. (Psalm 51:2-3; Psalm 32:4-5)
3. Sin stings the conscience. (Psalm 51:4; Psalm 32:5)
If you are merely afraid of the punishment for your sin, you had better carefully consider
your salvation. As a child of God, you don't just weep over your sin because you are
going to be punished, but because you have disgraced God. That's the difference
between a slave and a son. A slave fears the master's lash, a son fears the father's
displeasure. When we sin against God, we break His heart, and that should bother us.
4. Sin saddens the Christians Heart. (Psalm 51:8 & 12; Psalm 32:3-4)
5. Sin sickens the Body. (Psalm 51:8; 1 Corinthians 11:30)
6. Sin sours the Spirit. (Psalm 51:10)
7. Sin seals the Lips. (Psalm 51:13-14; Psalm 32:8)
How many of us leave each week just like we come in? What should we do?
1. Confess your sins. (Psalm 51:4; Psalm 32:5)
2. Have confidence, God still loves you. (Psalm 51:1; Psalm 32:5-6)
3. Allow God to cleanse you. (Psalm 51:7; Psalm 32:5)
David went one year before he repented. How long will you go?
