Jesus Teaches Two Foundations of Life
Genuine vs. Counterfeit
Luke 6:46-49
I. The Foundation of true discipleship is obedience to the word of God. (vs. 46)
II. The true disciple: lays a foundation. (Vs. 47-48)
1) He comes to Christ.
2) He hears and does the words of Christ.
3) He is like a builder.
a) He builds a house.
b) He digs deep.
c) He lays a rock foundation.
4) Results: His house stands.
III. The false disciple: lays no foundation. (vs. 49)
1) He hears, but does not obey.
2) He is like a builder.
a) He builds a house.
b) He does not dig.
c) He lays no foundation.
3) Results: A great fall.
IV. The true disciple: chooses building material carefully. 1 Corinthians 3:1-23
Key vs. 10-15
1) In both passages of scripture: Jesus Christ is the only true foundation. (vs. 11)
Luke 6:47-48
2) There is the possibility of laying the correct foundation but building with the
wrong material. (Vs. 12-15)
3) Results: Suffer loss. (vs. 15)
